WordPress Plugins to Have

WordTube

This plugin is for users who want to show their own videos in the style of Google Video or YouTube. There are several plugins (like WP-FLV, or CoolPlayer) which handle this already, but are not easy to integrate. With wordTube you can simply insert the video/media file into your blog with the tag [ MEDIA=ID ] or as playlist [ MYPLAYLIST=ID ] (without the spaces). This way, you can show a simple media file (e.g. in flv Format) or a playlist of all your media files.

I’ve had a very naughty flash game uploaded for weeks but I didnt have a suitable media player to display it on the blog, so this plugin caught my attention, and it works perfectly.

StatTraq

This plugin provides detailed statistics in a nice graphical format. The plugin tracks public (non-admin) activity of WordPress and reports Hits, Number of Page Views, IP Addresses, and creates some pretty graphs for some of the reports. It saves me the stress of logging on to my webhosting control panel just to see my site traffic stats. I recommend it for anybody doing a hit count competition, lol.

The installation is a little bit unusual, though: you have to create a new directory in the wordpress install location, and the plugin stats are viewed outside your familiar wp-admin interface. There’s a link that brings you back, so I’m not complaining.

One of the things your blog readers don’t have is time. That’s time to wade through your 500 or so posts to pick the golden posts that declare your blog “add to my feed reader” worthy. You need a way to present your top posts up front and you need an easy and automated way to do it. This plugin allows Wordpress bloggers to display their best posts, as determined by the number of visits to the post or number of comments.

I know I did not mention this plugin earlier, but I just found it like an hour ago, and it rocks! It allows me to list my frequently visited posts/articles and it also lets me add the number of views for each post, right beside the number of comments (on the archive list/home page).

Wow, I must be in wordpress-plugin heaven!
