Windows XP Bluescreens Again

Three blue screen errors in one day is just too much. I visit a client who gets blue screen of death (probably due to a power surge and resultant corruption of boot files). Another one gets a random bluescreen error after installing yahoo messenger . And to cap it up, my PC decides to emit its own blue screen. I had to fix the client number one’s PC. Turned out that it just needed a disk check run on it. But the for the other client, I had to do a total reinstall. And my own hard disk was completely messed up by the power surge.

Windows XP install failed six consecutive times (hanging at the filecopy process), Linux LiveCD’s complained about the partition table, Fedora Core wouldnt install, i had to start backing up data.

Luckily, i had a second hard disk in the PC, and they happened to be the same capacity. It appeared the data on the affected hard disk could still be read, so I copied them off (duh, using Damn Small Linux!) and now i’m thinking of doing a low-level format on the disk. Maybe i’ll be able to isolate the - i guess - newly created bad sectors, and use my disk again. Can’t shell out money for another disk just right now.

My PC is up and running Windows XP now, and I still have my user settings (I always backup my Profile directory), but my lovely downloaded apps are gone. Now i must fire up my browser. What was that ftp site again?….
