The Packard Bell EasyNote R0422

My new laptop arrived on Wednesday last week, but I only got to start using it on Friday. It’s a spanking new Packard Bell EasyNote R0422, and I’m almost dancing around the thing with joy.

Hello portable computing! I have treated the laptop to the welcome ritual I perform on every single new gadget I get: download the manuals and documentation, read online reviews, open it up to look inside, overcustomise.

Box Contents
I was surprised when I saw the packing case, because I thought Packard Bell had stopped the PC making business. Actually the rights to the name “packard bell” has been bought over by NEC computers, who have been gracious enough to continue using the branding and logos.

So it’s not the same PB we used to know, lol. The packing box was rather slim and light, and after months of using a weighty Alienware Area51-m, you will know I noticed the difference. The box came with the Laptop (duh!), its battery (packed separately), Power adapter, Power cord, a Quick Start and Troubleshooting Guide and the usual warranty documents.

There were no CDs or DVDs whatsoever, so I guessed it was one of those “all software pre-installed” laptops. Oh, yes, there was also a disk in there offering 8MB of Broadband internet access from BT Total Internet. I regretted not being in the UK at that time (I am in Lagos), because I would have loved to sign up and claim the free MP3 player being offered!
