Automation In A Business Environment
Running a small business can be tricky, you cannot hope to compete with volume shops on price and a lot of times you do not get the tax breaks the bigger business do get. What can help you however is that even in “brick and mortar businesses”, it is becoming increasing easy to get the technology advances used by much bigger competitors to achieve cost cutting, have time and most importantly speed up your supply chain.
The first things used to this were electronic cash registers, now we have everything from bar code scanners, to computers which have a live database of all the inventory (your local auto zone), and even proposals of a portable bar code scanner that is used by the customer to scan and bag items while shopping.
Do note that this will probably be just for registered customers, all these things help a small business compete with the Sam’s club down the street. Refurbished point of sale hardware and Linux software make POS equipment more easily accessible.
Small businesses (and their owners of which i am one) , should take advantage of low cost alternatives to legacy soft ware and hardware to compete in hard and good time, heck no one wants to be squeezed out.
