Posted on March 1st, 2007 in Software Reviews by Bobola Akinola

In this article, i want to just give you just a brief explanation of RealPlayer 10.5.
Just a few things you should know about it. Enjoy

Real Player History
RealPlayer was created by Real Networks. It is now the standard on palm devices and mobile phones (known as RealOne). On PC as at 2000, it was known as RealOne Player.
At this time, it had no support for any Windows Media Format

Installation!!
I decided to download RealPlayer today. Installation was quite easy.
First was the License agreement which every setup shows. After Installation, added files to the library.

Formats??
Formerly, RealPlayer for Windows did not support a lot of formats but now with the emergence of Helix DRM, RealPlayer now supports a lot of formats.
RealPlayer plays a wide variety of formats including windows media formats (.wma, .wmv, .wax, .asx, .asf, .wmx, .wm, .wvx.) and QuickTime Formats (mov, qt). It also supports DivX video (*.divx) and the MMS protocol (Microsoft Media Server).

Pro’s And Cons

Pros
•Non Microsoft Product
•Plays a wide variety of formats
•Supports a lot of devices including iPods.

Cons
•You can’t burn with RealPlayer without upgrading to the premium player.
•Only a 3-Band EQ is available in the free version. You would have to upgrade to the Premium Player to be able to use a 10-Band EQ.
•Ripping is slow. Windows Media Player rips faster than RealPlayer.
•No volume Leveling - RealPlayer cannot apply volume leveling to files so if you increase the equalizer, the sound would become tinny and your speakers might be damaged.
•It hangs too frequently:
•And its got lots of other issues

Well, all I have to say is that I’m still enjoying Windows Media Player 11 (even though the installation was stressful) and I might uninstall the RealPlayer soon.
But still, if you want it , you can go to Real.com to get a copy.
Watch out for my next article (My WMP 11 Experience)
